Babylon 5 S1E2: Soul Hunter
- Spoiler:
A man arrives on the station, claiming he can capture souls at the moment of death. Well, Delenn is not having any of *that* shit.
-Goodbye black Dr. Kyle from the pilot. Hello black Dr. Franklin for the series.
-We're not Star Trek. Our spaceships have to match vectors and obey the laws of physics.
-Delenn's ready to bust a PPG cap in his ass.
-The Sooooooul Huuuuuun terrrrrrrrrrrrr taaaaaaaalks slooooooooowly.
He does get better later on. Maybe he just had to warm up his English skills.
-If I believed in reincarnation, I'd be a bit ticked off too.
-Satai, huh? That explains why Delenn was ready to crush G'Kar's heart in his chest for blabbing about the Grey Council back in the pilot.
-Aaaah, N'Grath, Babylon 5's most infamous criminal preying mantis.
-I guess that's one way for a soul hunter to keep himself employed.
-Sinclair running off into danger for the second time today.
-"They are using you!" Our Soul Hunter here seems to have some important info he's not going to share.
-I wonder if Delenn freed the Soul Hunter's soul at the end?

Yeah, there's LOTS of politics on the way. Babylon 5 had a notoriously small budget, and most of the cast and crew didn't have a ton of previous scifi experience. It will take a bit for everything to settle in.

Babylon 5 S1E2
- Spoiler:
- I love the '80s/'90s "generic crowd foot-shuffling" sounds
- I also love how B5 has the "original Star Trek" thing where no one bats an eye when the commanding officer decides to go do something dangerous.
- Sinclair must be bad at the crane game w/ the stuffed animals back home
- Like half the time Sinclair and D'Lenn/the Mimbari ambassador are on screen, I kind of just get the "just fuck already" vibes between them
- Niiiice shot with the Soul Hunter's pupil dilating just because the hustler is about to get it
- Ya know what, just in general, this entire show has an OG Star Trek look to it. The new doctor writing on a space tablet in a hokey-looking costume just made think "Doctor McCoy"
- Dramatic pauses in the chase scene
- "Seems you just start to get it right and then it's over." "If we lived 200 years we'd still be human." "You're a pessimist." "I'm Russian, Doctor." Philosophizing space-people
- Hrmmmm, so it's almost differences of religion with the Soul Hunters and Mimbari. Soul Hunters preserve, Mimbari believe in like a communal resurrection.
- Is the great Mimbari ex-leader's name Dukat?
- Ohohohohhoo the tension, is Sinclair or Delenn gonna die? Or neither of them because their names are in the opening credits?
- Serial killing Soul Hunter, seems efficient
- Wuh oh, Soul Hunter looked into her soul, she's up to some mischief
- Space Internet. "XBox On"
- Delenn's snorting souls

-Heyyy, at least they’re making an effort with the special effects, the ship grapple looked decent for whatever year this was made.
-Episode two and we’re already into a good ol’ Star Trek-style sci-fi plotline of the week. I’m always down for that.
-They’re doing a lot more with their budget this ep. Still feels cheap, but a lot of the closeups and cuts of this soul hunter feel intentional, like someone is actually steering this ship artistically.
Yes. It’s. Very. Dramatic.waxingjaney wrote:-The Sooooooul Huuuuuun terrrrrrrrrrrrr taaaaaaaalks slooooooooowly.

Babylon 5 S1E3: Born to the Purple
- Spoiler:
Londo falls in love with a beautiful young woman. But is she more than she appears to be?
*G'Kar likes the ladies.
*Londo likes the ladies, and the lady likes him.
*This is going to be Londo's character episode.
*Ka'Doth does NOT like being touched.
*Ah, it's a honey trap, but the honey is reluctant.
*Vir likes his Gameboy.
*Everyone likes Vir's Gameboy.
*You'd think Centauri would have poison snoopers. I suppose love makes you dumb.
*Awwww, she has a heart after all.
*Trakis is using Londo to successfully use Londo. Interesting gambit.
*But Sinclair gambits better. And rushes into danger once again.
*Nice Terminator shades, dude.
*Don't think about being a sneaky turd, or where the woman is being held. Especially don't think about warm gushing waterfalls and all the drinks you've had today.
*Thanks for being a straw patsy today, G'Kar.
*And this is Ivanova's character episode, too.

S1E3
- Spoiler:
- Awriiiight, space strippers
- "Hey hotspots" I bet this is what won the Minbari war. A fucking human nerd used a pick-up line so bad that the Minbari collectively cringed and just said "Nope, fuck this" and quit
- Oh god, video games were still a kid thing back then so old people didn't know how to fake play them
- Okay, I kind of lol'ed at the Narn playing the space-3DS instead and Vir sitting there like "Fuck, I want to be doing that"
- Londo tries to kiss her hand, she fucking GROWLS AT HIM
- Space corset eyyyyyyyy gurl wanna play scan the sector?
- Newspapers in space? The Dodgers still active? Come onnnnnnn, surely space people stopped caring about Baseball
- Rouse him, Vir! Rouse him!
- "Babcom" just makes me lol, makes me think this super-powerful space station has baby communicators for it's communication systems
- "Don't give away the homeworld"
- What happens if the comedy club ambassadorial flunkies do a better job than the actual ambassadors do
- Dress up like Robin Hood and no one recognizes two of the most powerful people on the station?
- Fucking sunglasses on Space Chuck Norris here
- There's sure a lot of running/chase scenes in B5
- Russian hackers, ofc.
- Awww, Garabaldi and Ivanova scene
- The friendzone exists in space too, ouch

Re: (re)watch Babylon 5
It's starting to feel like things are coming together a bit, it's still pretty first season-y, but the pacing's improving and it's getting more fun to watch.
- S1E3:
-oh good, it's the space-stripper-slave-spy-with-a-heart-of-gold episode
-the ambassadors on this show are all like children
-I'm really hoping some time has passed and Londo's not just giving his priceless antique to someone he spent one night with
-Centauri really like their French Revolution style
-how big is this station, that Space Stripper/Slave/Spy can just name a store and expect the other dude to know where she means, but also they expect to be able to steal from an important ambassador and not have him find them even though their plan doesn't seem to involve leaving Babylon 5 immediately?
-Also, that the commander and top ambassador can wear a cloak and not be recognized by the owner of a club they were both in recently and one of them is probably a regular at, but the commander can still keep aware of all kinds of random information on presumably every business there?
-THE SUNGLASSES
-Isn't there a way for Ivanova to contact her dying father on Earth that doesn't involve secretly using a high-level classified channel and telling her commanding officer that he's just being crazy when he notices?
-LOL@ the "don't think about her location." Glad to see they're better at finding things for their mindreaders to do than Star Trek.
-nice bit between Ivanova and Garibaldi. Interesting that Ivanova's gotten two big personal backstory subplots so far and no one else has gotten any.

Garibaldi does have prime authority over security matters, but he's still subordinate in the overall command structure.

Re: (re)watch Babylon 5
S1E4
There was some really, really good stuff in this episode.
- Spoiler:
- That alien in the opening seconds looks like grumpiest old man in the universe
- "It's either an aphrodisiac or a floor wax. Can't decide if it's worth the risk or not." This guy
- He's coming back if it leaves a waxy build-up on anything, he's coming back
- Oh ho ho hooooo, is that the case in Doc's office that the guy killed the fool over earlier?
- Yuppppppp
- Living technologyyyyyyyyyy
- "All 7 moons eclipse." That would look so cooool but I'd be afraid of demons coming out tbh
- "I'm a doctor, I know what I'm doing." Ofc, doctors make the worst patients
- There was something so '90s about the gunfight <3
- Ohohohhooooo he found Nelson's heart-attack taser
- Oooooohhh, it sounds like they made protector Borg, but then programmed them into thinking that no one was "pure enough" to count as "real"
- Please. Please have Sinclair logic-talk the robot into blowing itself up. Give us a Kirk. Pretty please.
- I really like the sfx on the space guns.
- That old school "action hero shooting" pose, the fight scene, the dramatic argument,
- "You forgot the first rule of the fanatic. When you become obsessed with the enemy, you become the enemy." Fuuuuck, that was a pretty badass line
- HA HE TALKED IT INTO KILLING ITSELF YES
- MAN, that PTSD talk from Garabaldi to Sinclair.
- "Pro-Earth movement." I really love it when old shows say something that's relevant to what's happening in the present day. Old stuff always seems corny to look at compared to the present day, but then they say something that just hits right into the present day and it's like "oh damn, the old days wasn't just goofy shit and bad fashion."
- "All of this was for nothing. Unless we go to the stars." "HA, SUCK IT STAR TREK, WE JUST SUMMED YOU UP PERFECTLY AND WE'RE NOT EVEN ABOUT BOLDLY GOING WHERE NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE."
- (Kirk would've nailed that reporter, though)
- So I feel like watching this episode that the Sinclair/Garabaldi/Ivanova actors are settling into their roles. Franklin still seems a little stiff, but he hasn't had a lot of screentime either
There was some really, really good stuff in this episode.

Babylon 5 S1E4: Infection
- Spoiler:
- Dr. Franklin's old professor enlists him to study some alien artifacts, but all is not as it seems.
*Heeeeey, you're trying to smuggle someth....heeeeey, you're trying to murder meeeeeeeee.
*The professor seems a bit shady.
*Yep, his assistant already killed a dude.
*Energy spikes? Could be suspicious, or a discharge from the methane-breathers bathroom. Let's run a diagnostic.
*Professor Shady is setting off Franklin's do-gooder alarm.
*Oops, he tripped the alien burglar alarm. And it gave him a rash.
*Organic power armor that takes your body over. These guys are squishy Borg.
*Man, nobody likes Ms. Superperm. I think it's the purple jacket.
*Sinclair running off to danger again. Sinclair Danger Count is up to 7, and we're only on episode 4.
*Sinclair talks the monster to death. Kirk achievement unlocked.
*Uh oh, Franklin found Professor Shady's shady murder weapon.
*Shady tries to buy his way out of trouble. Ha ha, you can't buy off do-gooders!
*Garibaldi *finally* calls Sinclair on his death wish.
*Earth firsters and hate groups. Yeah, that's a background infodump.
*And Earth wants to research the squishy Borg artifacts, probably by springing Professor Shady from jail. I'm sure that will turn out fine.
*Sinclair waxes poetic about human culture. Picard achievement unlocked.

Re: (re)watch Babylon 5
A pretty solid episode, for the most part nothing amazing, but it does feel like the show's getting the hang of itself. Notable bits:
- S1E4:
-Garibaldi's adventures in aphrodisiacs/floor wax I love this guy
-We're all aliens to each other
-Garibaldi's talk with Sinclair at the end. It's really interesting that they're taking this route instead of just going with the 'badass captain goes where the action is and his officers scold him but really they think he's just that badass and it's okay because he always pulls through (coughKirkcough).'" Starting to get the sense that all the characters have some dark backstories going on there.

Babylon 5 S1E5: The Parliament of Dreams
- Spoiler:
The station is hosting a religious festival, and G'Kar has a murder contract on his head.
*G'Kar likes to sing to his supper.
*All that work, and no utensils.
*Commander, your replacement girlfriend is here.
*Londo is a happy drunk.
*So is Ivanova.
*Aww, they're all awkward and dorky around each other. They are in wuuuv.
*It's not a horse head, but I can understand the scream. Assassin was creeping on you in your sleep, and peeping on your playboy robe.
*This romantic banter is like watching a Kevin Smith movie.
*Delenn must have eaten the fruit of the Tree of Orgasm.
*G'Kar's bodyguard couldn't even protect his own body. I hope he went back and got a refund from N'Grath.
*Oh, so that's why the courier was in the credits.
*Yeah, they're going to do it.
*Yeah, they did it.
*Glasses on a Narn look silly, but why wouldn't aliens have shitty eyesight too?
*Well, G'Kar finally found an aide he gets along with.
*Earth's ceremony is a meet-n-greet with every Earther on the station. And this one guy who doesn't like religion, because that's also a religion somehow.

Re: (re)watch Babylon 5
S1E5
That was a funny as fuck episode
- Spoiler:
- "I've got a few things to do" Like that girl who just walked in?
- G'Kar singing a song while cooking. Wonderful
- "I am dying." "About time." Just the petty way he says it to the TV, fuck this guy
- "And then very shortly, so will you" *looks over menacingly at the TV* I love the '90s
- He gave all his money away to someone just so they can kill him
- Implying he's even going to die when Londo had that death dream
- Ohhhh, maybe Sinclair's ex-wife or something?
- "Centauri religious ceremony" PARTY TIMEEEE
- Ivanova actually smiling
- "When every day's a struggle, you need all the Gods you can get." Of course a Russian would love this
- "God of the underworld... and front doors." I really hope this part of the scene wasn't scripted, it's too good
- "Your pants are talking to you." I like the goofy humour
- "I'd give you my birth number, but I suspect you already know how to find me... Commander." Girl-game in the future is pretty horrid too
- G'Kar staring a hole in his new aide
- I love how his aide is just seamlessly playing into his stupidity about being an assassination target
- THE SCREAM AND THE FADE TO COMMERCIAL I LOVE YOU 1990s
- "Earthers have a phrase. Keep you friends close and your enemies closer. I believe they stole it from us!"
- Delennnnnn gonna get some space D from her new assistant ahhhh yeahhh
- Politicssss, don't mention the Grey Council, don't mention the title. And it sounds like he was of pretty low standing or rank or something and suddenly got this job.
- Arguing like an old married couple over who left last time
- "Let's just fuck already."
- "I am with you until the end of time." She said that directly at Sinclair, totes the Emissary for the Prophets
- BODYGUARD'S DEAD
- WHY DIDN'T YOU DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, ASSISTANT?
- He throws the panties down in anger... and then immediately looks down at them again. I choose to think that he's wondering if they actually are his colour
- "HOLY SHIT I'M RICH"
- "We find meaning where we can." That's like the perfect excuse for watching trashy TV
- This steamy soap opera melodrama
- THE COURIER'S SMILE WHEN HE SHOOTS HIM
- The Narn wear glasses too. They don't have ears. Why do they have human glasses? Or is it that they discovered astronavigation but never could figure out how to fix near-sightedness until they humans came along?
- "You will know pain." "And you will now fear." "And then you will die. Have a pleasant flight!"
- G'Kar and his attache are like an overreactive married couple from a sitcom, I hope this character stays for a bit longer
- Oh shiiii, Delenn married Sinclair
- Religion made it into the 23rd century, and they all still dress like their stereotypes
That was a funny as fuck episode

_Londo's story about the other species on the Centauri homeworld
_Londo can really put away a lot of booze
_Delenn telling Lennier to look up at her
_The Minbari rebirth ceremony
_G'Kar refusing to scream while being tortured
_Sinclair's gf being a planetary explorer

S1 E6
Mannnnn, that felt like an old school Star Trek episode (for obvious and non-obvious reasons).
- Spoiler:
- It's more important to kill spaceship thieves than it is to recover the spaceship they stole
- Garibaldi. perving on a telepath is probs not a good idea
- Eyyyyy, Chekov, I think you're in the wrong universe, pal.
- Ohohhooooo, the Transporter Malfunction that sent Chekov to this universe gave him psychic powers
- Hrmmm, so Sinclair's ex-ex has to hush up finding material for Jump Gates? Seeeeeems fishy
- Ms. Kelsey should probably not read my mind <3
- Huhhhh, was that ship-quake in his head or was that actually real?
- "Just find him, we'll do the rest." "GUYS I FOUND HIM" and the episode should be over now
- Psychic arms race, that's so cool
- "Talia, what's between you and Jason? I need the juicy gossip."
- Wtfffffffff was that giant ship?
- Thanks for the save G'Kar, I'm sure this won't cost any favours or anything
- YEAH FUCK YOU STAR TREK EAT FIST
- NOOOO KELSEY-CHWANNNNNN
- Awww shiii, he just turned into Buddha
- Wuh oh, he turned her TK on
- Wowwwww, G'Kar's ant explanation

Babylon 5 S1E6: Mind War
- Spoiler:
A rogue telepath seeks sanctuary on the station, and Catherine Sakai lands an exploration gig.
-Booooosh. Light fixes everything.
-Yeah, I'm the commander's woman, but I have my own career and stuff.
-Garibaldi's horndog thoughts are a bit too obvious.
-It's Chekov... and he's an asshole.
-Looks like Psicops are assholes by design.
-G'kar doesn't want her nosing around his planet.
-"No one here is exactly what he appears to be." Boy, is that the understatement of the century.
-Well, they didn't quite get the "stable" part nailed down.
-G'Kar sending in the guns.
-"Oh ho hooo, G'Kar and his scaaaaaary warnings." You and your big mouth.
-Uh oh, Jason found the door that leads outside of the Matrix.
-And all of Psicorps are assholes. Sneaky, ambitious assholes.
-And there goes the sidekick.
-He's ascended or something.
-Sinclair wheeling and dealing again.
-G'Kar being a philosopher, and he didn't even proposition her for rescue sex. "No one here is exactly what he appears to be" indeed.

I think you two have covered everything, so I'll keep it pretty short.
- S1E5:
-the romantic dialogue is awful, just awful.
-loved G'Kar's singing while cooking
-do people get assigned contact numbers at birth?
-the dynamic between G'kar and his assistant at the end was great, and Delenn's new assistant seems potentially interesting too.
-next episode, wacky accidental marriage hijinks?
-just bringing in a person from each of a gazillion Earth religions is such a cop-out. It says the dominant religion, presumably every damn planet has a gazillion religions they could have chosen but they all managed to pick one to display, I bet they're all annoyed at him for pulling a smug "look how diverse we are" to try and one-up them.
-There wasn't enough point to that romance for it to stand on its own, I'm betting it's setting her up either for a tragic death or for some laughs and drama in accidental marriage hijinks later on. Or both.
Fun episode!
