It's a small world

A funny thing happened two nights ago. I was at a thing where I didn't know anyone. I sat down with two people at a table. They were gossiping about their friends. One of them said to me "you probably don't care because you don't know these people, but anyway" and kept gossiping. They were talking about a friend of theirs who recently broke up with her boyfriend, whom neither of them had met.

Then I heard their friend's name.

I said "Hold on. Which [first name] exactly are we talking about?"

She replied with the full name.

Then I said "Yeah, that's my ex-girlfriend."

So apparently I was the ex-boyfriend they had been talking about without realising I was sitting next to them.
